The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released a report. In this report, Indians are second in terms of acquiring U.S. citizenship. However, Mexican people are at the forefront in this list. In the 2016 financial year (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016), the US Government has given 7.53 lakh people citizenship of their country. These are 46,100 Indians. Indian citizens are number one in the US citizenship leave in 2017.
According to the report, for the past two years, people who have achieved US citizenship have increased. This year, most Mexican people had applied for securing U.S. citizenship. Most of these applications have been rejected.
About 9.7 million people applied for US citizenship in this financial year. This is 24 per cent higher compared to the previous year.
According to John C. Yang, president of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice, “Indians understand the cost of citizenship at the highest level. According to the National Partnership Report ‘New Americans’, applications pending for the sake of American citizenship have increased to 77 percent in the last two years.
